How to Be Annoynomous When Reviewing a Game on Google Play

  1. Dorsum in the day, Play Store app reviews showed the reviewer'south name as "A Google user." And so, subsequently...some result in Android/Google history, reviews were shown with the author's [presumably] real name.

Fast forrard to today: there are many brand new, electric current reviews whose authors are shown as "A Google user." Others are shown with names like "I Only Made This Upwardly"--in other words, clearly faux.

How can you post a review and have it prove "A Google user" instead of your real name?

Of course, some obvious answers are make a faux account, or don't make an account, or...some other thing that doesn't brand sense. For instance, if yous create a fake account, non just would information technology show your fake 'real' proper name, equally opposed to "A Google user," but you couldn't review any of the apps you lot installed under your real business relationship.

I *Desire* to post anonymously, i.due east., equally "A Google user," or with a nom de feather like on Amazon's reviews. But subsequently searching every setting I can find, I'm coming up blank. How is information technology done?

I did this a few days agone after starting to comment (politely) on some You Tube reviews, and hated seeing my full name there and on many Google Maps changes / contributions (whkch I deleted, and Google never fact cheque them properly...).

If I remember, yous accept to lose your first name and last name to have but a username, you have express changes before you have to exit it be for I think around ninety days. (Also quondam to care).
I had my beginning name + new username initially but decided on only a username. I don't think it affects Gmail.

ADDED : In fact if you send from Gmail information technology shows as from "Username" and your regular 30@Gmail.com, so at that place's that!

  3. Thanks for the info, @Tmadd59. :)

Unfortunately, when I edit my proper noun, it won't take empty fields; I believe it's just the last name that'due south a mandatory field. I suppose I can just brand something up there. Oh! Is that where yous put your nickname, instead of in the nickname field? I'one thousand doing it...

...and I'chiliad back. It would not permit me get out either field (outset and last names) blank. And then I fabricated something up, got a alert that I can just alter my name 3 times in 90 days, and saved it.

So I'1000 happy with that, simply I still don't know how/why some current reviews show "A Google user" as the writer.

    Me neither.

Though I don't apply Gmail much for whatsoever personal stuff, having the recipient see an e-mail from your username (who?) is probably a deal breaker, and so hopefully in that location's a manner to prepare that.

Welcome to Google, shifting one solution to another problem. :p

  5. I don't use Gmail AT ALL, except for Google-generated mail. Literally no one has my G address. Plus, I use my e-mail client to send/receive Gmail--not their online organisation--and so my name shows up on approachable mail every bit I set it, non Google. My mail is stored on my difficult drives, not theirs. You become the idea. :D
  6. Yes, cheers Jay, I had previously gone there when someone told me that adding a nickname would solve my problem. It didn't. Instead of showing Only my nickname on my reviews, it showed information technology like this: Start "Nickname" Last. I kid you not!

And in that location, too, I couldn't just get out the name fields blank.

Although my issue is resolved--non ideally, but resolved--I nevertheless want to know how so many other people's reviews show "A Google user" as the author, damn it! :D

I know what you mean, but if you have any tries left, I managed to get merely the username by putting information technology in the starting time proper noun (or maybe it was the terminal name) field and left the residual blank, merely that was my three goes.

Sorry I can't experiment to be sure, to be sure!

I'm gonna try to fix ny Gmail name afterwards, only that'south unlikely if it's all tied in.
At least we both take heady plans for ninety days time.

  8. You know what I did? I put "A Google" in the first proper noun field, and "user" in the last. Now information technology'll lucifer the real ones! ;)

If you can't beat out 'em, might besides join 'em. :D

You're cleverer than I am, although that's not proverb an awful lot. I thought you were stuck with office of your proper name.

Off topic but very coincidentally simply now, I had a coffee and a bite in a new co-operative of a sandwich chain (opened today). In that location was no telephone call or data signal and then I connected to their wifi.
I may exist going mad but they have a new log in where you have to manually put your date of birth in, fifty-fifty though it recognised me and I never gave a DOB and wouldn't ideally desire to..
... that's all fine.... but equally I turned 60 in June the just mode to put any engagement in was to tap back on the calendar month from August 2019.

That would mean 722 taps to correctly enter my appointment. I kid y'all not. The child who did this.... well, there was no way to become to the yr. Utterly silly.

  10. That's across ridiculous! If they need to verify that you're an developed, they tin do that with a simple yes/no question. Why on earth should they need your whole birthdate? Let's say they have a 'birthday social club' where you get free dessert or something on your birthday. They don't need annihilation but MM/DD.

As for the non-user friendly programming, information technology's simply plain stupid not to allow manual entry of your birth yr. Did you endeavor pressing on the year? I'm just shaking my head...

I tried property the dorsum button, and everything and every where else. As information technology'southward new since yesterday I'm hoping they have made an error and it's not me, so I'll email them about it now I'thou out of in that location with information. I don't await much just if enough people do the same....

On Edit : You lot know, the only matter is maybe I didn't flick the whole month to the right and commencement a fast scroll, although I think I would have tried.... I think I'll try information technology some other time though before I make more of a fool of myself. People my age shouldn't exist allowed out in the evening actually.

Don`t you only tap the Baronial 2019 title which then allows you lot to jump year by year @Tmadd59 ?

Glad y'all got it sorted @MoodyBlues yous will have to see if everything else you lot might use google for now shows you as "a google user". :p

The championship bar thing does nothing, thanks.
I would have thought this was an off the shelf calendar system but information technology doesn't seem to work hither. I but emailed them. D**** I forgot screenshots only let's see what their CS is like for customers below the IQ threshold

    Sorry to derail @MoodyBlues

Well and then, so there I was last Saturday, minding my ......

    :D

    ......

  17. I just wanted to mail service an update, in instance a search brings someone here thinking they've plant a solution to the anonymity issue. Not exactly.

While I'd changed my proper noun to "A Google user," I posted a review of a business on Google Maps. Yay!, I thought, this is great. But then, logged out of Google so I could see what others see, I clicked my name or picture--and it linked to everything I'd ever posted on Google-related sites. They all showed the false name.

Afterwards changing back to my real name, I again checked my reviews--they all showed my real proper name, including the i I'd posted with the simulated proper name. Ugh.

So if you're looking for a way to anonymously mail 1 review--and I can see many reasons 1 might want to do that--and so change back to your real name, this isn't it. :(

PS I wonder what happened to/with @Tmadd59. I was enjoying interacting with him, and having another former geezer around here, so he'southward merely...gone...
